Gala Information

We take great care and pride in presenting your child in the Corona Dance Academy Summer Gala in a professional manner. We also strive to continually present our studio and its curriculum in a professional manner and we try to set ourselves apart from other dance studios with the result of this constant effort of professionalism. It is with these thoughts in mind that we ask all students and parents to adhere to the following performance rules and requirements.
Performance Date: Saturday, June 11 @ 1:00pm & 5:00pm
Location: The Irvine Barclay Theater 4242 Campus Drive, Irvine, 92612
Dress Rehearsal: Saturday, June 4th through Friday, June 10th.

Dress rehearsal will be held at Corona Dance Academy on regular class days and times. Please have your dancer in full costume, hair and make up, exactly as they would for the performance.
Tights: Please make sure your dance has the tights that were given with the costume. Any other type would be noticeable on stage with the bright stage lights. If your dancer arrives back stage with different tights, they will be given a pair in which to change, and your account will be charged $10.
Hair/Makeup: All classes will have their hair in a slick, secure bun, with NO bangs or wisps. Wetting the hair first and heavy hairspray and gel are recommended. The only classes to have a pony tail are Hip Hop. Makeup should consist of RED lipstick, blush, a little eye color and mascara (optional). NO NAIL POLISH allowed. If dancers arrive with painted nails, the color will be removed backstage. Please save the manicure for a treat AFTER the performance.
Video and Photos: Professional photos are being done through Insight Photography on Saturday, June 12th. All performances will be professionally recorded by Starr Video. You may take photos and videos during dress rehearsal at the studio. Photographs and videos are NOT permitted during the performance.
Tickets: Tickets are available online through the link on the studio website www.coronadanceacademy.com Tickets will also be available at the theater the day of the performance.
Performers: Dancers do not need a ticket unless they would like to watch the performance in the audience. We strongly encourage students to watch the performance from the audience and applaud for their fellow students. For dancers wanting to watch from the audience:
If your dancer performs in the first act, they will arrive at the theater ready to perform, in costume, then change into street clothes during intermission and enter the theater as a patron with a paid ticket.
If your dancer performs in the second act, they will arrive at the theater with hair and makeup ready, and enter as a patron with a paid ticket. During intermission, check into the dancer room, change into their costume, and be ready to perform. Other than watching the performance from the audience with a paid ticket, all dancers will remain backstage the entire performance. Absolutely NO costumes are to be worn in the audience.
Infants and Children: Per the Fire Code, a ticket is required for EVERY PERSON entering the theater, including infants and children.
Parking: Parking will be available in the parking structure at the Barclay Theater. Parking is paid upon entry and charged by the parking structure.
Food and Drink: Dancers are encourages to bring a disposable water bottle, clearly marked with their name on it.  Since no food is allowed backstage, please ensure your dancer has a proper meal prior to arriving at the theater.
Young Performers: Parent volunteers will be back stage helping to keep dancers organized and on stage at the proper time. These volunteers will also help with costume changes. There is a monitor showing the performance in the dancer room. Do not send a dance bag with your dancer, unless she/he has a costume change during the performance.
Volunteers: The studio staff at the desk has a sign up list available for parents of the younger classes to sign up to help in dancer room/backstage. Please arrive at the check in table in the theater lobby 30 minutes prior to the performance and sign in. You will be given a lanyard to wear while volunteering. You will help line up your dancers on deck and enjoy the performance from the wings. You will stay with the dancers until all the dancers from that class have been signed out to parents at the end of the performance.
Dancers Sign in/out: Dancers 12 years and older can sign themselves in and out of the theater. Dancers under 12 years must be signed in/out by an adult. NO dancers will be released during the performance. The backstage area is kept secure during the performance and for this reason there will be no admittance by anyone not on the volunteer list. When the performance has concluded, dancers will be released to their parents/family at the check in area. PLEASE BE PATIENT. We understand you want to get your dancer and take pictures with family. However, after each performance, we are responsible for releasing all students, and our dancers’ safety comes first!
June Tuition: Per the studio policies and procedures, June tuition MUST be paid in full in order to perform. Your dancer will not be permitted to perform if your tuition is not up to date on the day of the performance. Studio staff will have a master list of all past due accounts.

Summer Gala FAQs

If dancers are in the first half of the performance, can they watch the second half of the performance? (or vice versa)

Yes, the dancer can purchase a ticket to watch the half in which they are not performing. They will need to check their costume(s) into the dancer room, and must be in street clothes while watching the performance.

Why does my daughter need to wear RED lipstick?

Stage lights are extremely bright. Any other shade of lipstick looks washed-out once on stage. If you are comfortable with your dancer wearing a little blush and eye make up/mascara, that is welcomed. NO Nail Polish or Temporary Tattoos.

Do children and babies need tickets purchased for them?

Yes, per the fire code, every person in the building needs to have a ticket.

Will tickets be sold at the performance?

Yes. Look for the ticket booth.

Do the dancers have a Dress Rehearsal?

Yes, it will be held at the studio the week before the Gala, on their regular class day and time. The dancers must come in costume, with hair and make up done (stage ready).

Can my dancer get dressed at the theater?

No, unless your dancer is watching the first half of the performance, they must arrive fully dressed, with hair and make up done. Please have them wear street shoes, and change into their dance shoes upon check in. Parents will then take the street shoes with them.

Can I just purchase any brand of pink or tan tights for the performance?

No, they must be the tights that you received with the costume. The bright stage lights will show any differences.

We have a family event the night of the performance and need to leave at intermission. Are we allowed to take our dancer at that time?

Yes, however, in the interest of the safety of your dancer, please check with our staff and make arrangements ahead of time. In this situation, your dancer can only be released at intermission. For everyone’s safety, CDA will not allow dancers to leave while the performance is ongoing.

What if my dancer gets hungry during the performance time?

Consider this as a half day of school. Make sure your dancer eats a good meal (but not too heavy) before arriving. Water will be provided for them in the dancer room. There are many eating areas directly across from the theater, for after the performance.

My dancer has a costume change. Can I go into the dancer room to help?

You are not able to go back just for the costume change, as we will have parent helpers assigned to different jobs, and you must be cleared prior to the event. You can however, sign up to be a parent helper. Please see CDA staff.

If I am a parent helper, how will I see my dancer perform?

You will be able to watch from side stage while your dancer is performing, then you will return to your assigned job.

Can I drop off my dancer and let them sign themselves in/out?

Dancers12 years or older, can sign themselves in/out.

Dancers under 12 years need an adult to sight them in/out.

My dancer has a Quick Change (less than 3 dances to change). Will someone be able to help them?

Yes, however, you MUST let the volunteers at the check-in table know.

What can my dancer bring?

Please bring all costume Pieces and and towel or blanket to sit on.
